The problem with avoiding the dentist is that it puts your dental health at risk. Some people avoid the dentist entirely, while others only manage appointments when a condition has gotten so bad, they can’t take it anymore. At that point treatment may, of necessity, be extreme – something that could have been prevented with regular checkups.
If you are coping with dental phobia, sedation dentistry may be just the answer you need. We offer three types of sedation:
- Nitrous oxide. Popularly called laughing gas, nitrous oxide puts you in a very relaxed state. It is safe and effective, works quickly, and wears off quickly. It’s been used in dentistry for more than one hundred years.
- Oral conscious sedation involves taking a sedative before your scheduled appointment. It puts you in a deeply relaxed state.
- IV sedation puts you in an even deeper state of relaxation. As the name indicates, it is administered intravenously. You will remain awake through your prcedure, and will even be able to answer questions we put to you. But you probably won’t remember any of it afterward.
With oral conscious sedation and IV sedation, you will need a ride to and from our office.
